Glendale CA is actually an interesting city. Most people do not realize that there are many attractions to behold until they step into the actual city and explore it for themselves. There is no better place than Deukmejian Wilderness Park, which offers a plethora of activities and natural beauty that few places in the area can offer.
Located at the base of the Verdugo Mountains, this park is a pristine location that is perfect for a nature hike or picnic. Deukmejian Wilderness Park has been open to the public since 1978 and spans over 320 acres. It was donated to the city of Glendale by Governor George Deukmejian in memory of his parents Vasili and Lillian. It is a great place for a day trip, an afternoon hike, or to pack up some blankets and enjoy your lunch under the sunshine on one of their many picnic tables.
Deukmejian Wilderness Park offers 11 trails that are fully accessible by all types of visitors. From young children to elderly adults, this park is perfect for everyone. There are multiple trails that range in length and skill level, so there is something here for everyone. The most popular trail at this park is the Mesa Trail which has wonderful views of Glendale below (including the iconic Americana sign).
Other activities offered at Deukmejian Wilderness Park include non-motorized boating, campgrounds for both youth and adults, fishing at the designated lakes (which require a California State Fishing License), picnic areas with many tables/barbecue pits, and an interpretive center. You can’t ask for more than this in your local park!
